Pro: These games teach the key skill of the 21st century: understanding and manipulating complex systems. Neutral: Most kids who play splatter games never come to any lasting harm. Factors such as a loving family, stable friends, and a violence-free home all buffer the risk. Con: kids without such protective factors – our most vulnerable citizens, in other words – can be pushed by splatter games over the edge. In fact of all the proven risk factors favoring real-world physical and relational violence, playing gore-nographic E-games comes second only to gang membership.
